Halifax Regional Police say they’re investigating after a young woman was sexually assaulted and robbed on the Dartmouth Common Saturday evening.

Police received the call just before 9 p.m.

A 17-year-old girl was walking in the area of Alderney Drive and Wyse Road when police said she was attacked, sexually assaulted and had her purse stolen.

The victim described her attacker as black, with a small tattoo under his right eye. She told police he looked like he was in his early 20s, is about five feet five inches tall, and he was wearing a baseball cap, a bandana and a dark tank top.

Police and a canine unit searched the Dartmouth Common and found the victim’s purse and cell phone.

The victim was taken to Dartmouth General Hospital where she was examined and released.

The matter is still under investigation and is being handled by the Major Crime Section.
