Halifax Regional Police are searching for a driver who is accused of a hit-and-run in Dartmouth after a girl was struck in a marked crosswalk Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the 12-year-old girl was crossing at the Akerley Boulevard and Windmill Road intersection with her mother at 3:12 p.m.. A car turning right onto Windmill Road hit the girl.

"The vehicle briefly stopped and the driver exited the vehicle to apologize before leaving the area towards Sackville on Magazine Hill," Const. Pierre Bourdages said in a statement.

The girl was treated at the IWK Health Centre for injuries that are not life-threatening.

Halifax Regional Police want to talk to the driver. He's described as a white man, aged 35 to 45, with dark hair and a moustache. He was driving a four-door silver Hyundai, said police.
