Brittanee Laverdure of Watson Lake, Yukon, won a silver medal in wrestling Thursday at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Laverdure says she drew good opponents in Thursday's competition. She won her first match against Cameroon, moved on to win against Nigeria, but lost her final match against India.

Laverdure says her final match was not without incident.

"Right at the end of my match, I ended up having a compound fracture in my finger," she said.

"Normally you shake your opponent's hand and raise their hand, shake the coach's hand. I was more like, 'Put my finger back in,' before I could do podium."

Laverdure says she will be out of action for about a week because of the fracture. She hopes it doesn't hinder her preparations for the Wrestling World Championships in Uzbekistan, in September.

The Pan Am Games next year in Toronto will be her next stepping stone to her goal of being on Canada's team at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
