Yukon RCMP issue 8 impaired driving charges in weekend blitz
2 people caught driving again after being given 24-hour licence suspensions
RCMP in the Yukon issued dozens of tickets and laid a number of criminal charges during a traffic offence crackdown over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Cpl. Shawn Pollard says Operation Impact was aimed at reminding people about safe driving habits before winter comes.
He says eight people were charged with impaired driving and 12 were issued 24-hour driving suspensions.
"On two of those occasions the people were caught driving after being issued the 24-hour suspensions, which is also very troubling," he said.
Pollard says about 250 people total were charged over the weekend, including 85 speeding tickets and 14 for using a cell phone while driving.
