Yukon RCMP find body of Richard Hager in Pelly River
21 year-old was found 1 km downstream of bridge he jumped from for swim
RCMP from Pelly Crossing, Yukon located the body of Richard Hager Jr. in the Pelly River, Monday afternoon.
Hager, 21, had been missing since July 19. Police say Hagar's death is consistent with witness accounts that he jumped from the bridge at Pelly Crossing into the river for a swim, but was unable to make it to shore.
His body was found about one kilometre downstream from the bridge.
An exhaustive search for Hagar was scaled back last week. It had involved local RCMP from Dawson City, Mayo and Carmacks; Police Dog Services, auxiliary constables, M Division RCMP Relief Team, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Yukon Search and Rescue, and volunteers from Selkirk First Nation and the communities of Mayo and Carmacks.
The Yukon Coroner will investigate the case, with assistance from the RCMP.
