The Yukon Quest's new executive director, Laurie Parris, comes to the race via Africa and Cambodia.

Although she doesn't have any direct experience with the mushing community, she says her job will be the business end of the race.

"Management has taken me into a lot of different different industries, but when you get right down to the administration of a business, it is the same details," Parris said.

Parris comes to the Quest from her most recent job advising a provincial fisheries organization in Cambodia. She has also worked in manufacturing, agriculture, education, and retail industries in Africa, the U.S. and Canada.

She takes over from Marie Boulanger, who stepped down from the position to move to Alaska.
