Yukon’s MLA for Copperbelt South says a section of highway to Ross River is in unacceptable condition.

Lois Moorcroft says the road is an obstacle course for local people and fears it's so bad it will drive tourists away.

"When heading east down the Campbell Highway, the conditions are generally good," she said.

"But as soon as you pass the turnoff to Faro and start heading towards Ross River, you drop onto a treacherous, broken chip-sealed road, and traffic must slow down to 50 kilometres or less."

Moorcroft raised the issue in the Yukon legislative assembly.

The government said it's committed to fixing roads and that this year the Yukon budget allocates more than $40 million for highway repair, which includes $8.5 million for the reconstruction of the Robert Campbell Highway.
