Yukon man faces dozens of sex-related charges against children
Identity of accused protected by court-ordered publication ban
A Yukon man was in court this afternoon in Whitehorse, facing dozens of sex-related charges against children.
Police have not released the name of the accused, citing a court-ordered publication ban intended to protect the identity of his alleged victims.
The man faces 49 charges in total, including more than a dozen counts each of voyeurism, sexual interference and making and possessing child pornography.
RCMP held a news conference on Friday morning, before the accused first appeared in court, to announce their request for a publication ban.
"We are doing what we feel is appropriate at this point in time and at this juncture, before the matter is formally before the courts, to ensure that further victimization or re-victimization does not occur," RCMP Supt. Brian Jones said.
