A Haines Junction, Yukon, man has been found not guilty of fondling a girl in Yellowknife almost 20 years ago.

Justice Karen Shaner handed down the verdict Thursday afternoon.

Shaner emphasized she was not suggesting the woman who made the complaint was making up her story, but said Gordon Randolph Larsen's testimony did not seem contrived and she had no reason not to believe him.

The complainant walked out of the courtroom shortly after the verdict, while the judge was still going through her reasons.

Larsen did not react, except to thank the judge after she told him he was free to go.

He was once sentenced to three years in jail for fondling the girl in this case, as well as two others.

Larsen appealed that conviction and a new trial was ordered, though this time there was only one complainant.
