The Government of Yukon is giving $250,000 to the Fireweed Community Market in Whitehorse to help maintain programs and infrastructure and help keep the market going.

Brad Cathers, the Minister of Energy, Mines, and Resources for Yukon, says it's part of an ongoing plan to support local industry.

"It's an important part of our efforts to increase local production of food, facilitate access to market, and support continued growth of this sector of the economy."   The five-year funding deal between the farmers' market and the territorial and federal governments is part of the Growing Forward 2 program.

About 40 local vendors sell their products at the outdoor market in Shipyards Park.
