Yukon again tops in alcohol sales per capita

Yukon led the nation again last year in per capita alcohol sales, according to Statistics Canada.

Newfoundland and Labrador 2nd, N.W.T. and Nunavut a close 3rd

Yukon led the nation again last year in per capita alcohol sales, according to Statistics Canada.

In 2012-13, sales amounted to $1,332.10 for every Yukoner.

Sales were also high across the North - at $954.40 per capita in the N.W.T. and Nunavut.

Newfoundland and Labrador actually had the second highest sales in the country at $981.40 per capita.

Overall, Canadians bought $733.70 of alcohol per capita.

Statistics Canada says the Yukon numbers are heavily influenced by the hundreds of thousands of tourists visiting a territory that only has a population of just under 37,000 people.

Beer was tops in sales for Yukon and Nunavut, while spirits narrowly edged out beer in N.W.T.
