A 16-year-old male has been arrested in relation to the death of a woman in Igloolik, Nunavut, Thursday night.

Nunavut RCMP say charges are pending. The Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits the youth's name from being released.

On Thursday night, Igloolik officers responding to a call about a disturbance at a residence found a woman dead in the home.

The V Division Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Section are in Igloolik assisting the detachment with the homicide investigation.

The woman's name has not yet been released.

"We're still in the process of establishing contact with next-of-kin and such, and once that's completed the family will be consulted to ensure they're okay with the name being released," said RCMP Sgt. Kevin Lewis.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Igloolik RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
