Young Hall Beach, Nunavut, hunter found safe
A hunter from Hall Beach, Nunavut, missing since Monday has been found safe.
Steven Allianaq, 24, was returning to the community from caribou hunting when he became separated from the rest of his hunting party. He got lost, headed in a different direction and ended up far from Hall Beach.
His snowmobile ran out of gas and he stayed put.
Manasee Ulaayuk with Search and Rescue in Hall Beach said searchers found a series of jerry cans and then Allianaq was found with his snowmobile and sled northwest of the community.
"He's all right, nice and warm," Ulaayuk said.
Ulaayuk said there was a big celebration planned in the community to thank everyone.
The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Trenton, Ont., sent aircraft to aid in the search and Igloolik Search and Rescue volunteers helped with the ground search.
