Diamond Cabs has shut down after the City of Yellowknife revoked the company's licence for not having the minimum number of licensed taxi drivers.

Doug Gillard, manager of municipal enforcement for the city, says an investigation found Diamond Cabs in violation of that requirement.

"They have to have 10 taxis licensed and available and 10 drivers available to drive them," he said. "They had 10 taxis and only eight drivers."

Gillard says if Diamond Cabs can meet the requirement, the city will reissue the licence.

But in an email, company spokesperson Evan Froment said the company will no longer be operating. Froment said it was a sad day for Diamond Cabs to shut down operations after providing taxi service for the last 15 years.
