Yellowknife’s army reservists will be training using live ammunition on Yellowknife Bay this weekend.

The Yellowknife Company of the Canadian Forces’ Loyal Edmonton Regiment will be setting up a winter camp and firing range at the very south end of the bay.

"Since November, the company has been practising basic winter-operations skills," said Maj. Conrad Schubert, the company's commanding officer.

"This is an opportunity to take the skills that have been learned in classrooms with weapons, and the skills that we learned outside, and put them together in a winter environment."

There are signs on the lake warning the public to steer clear of the area, as they will be using live ammunition in a number of different types of firearms including the C6 machine gun.
