RCMP in Yellowknife want the public's help in locating a man who broke into a home and sexually assaulting a woman last week.

Police say it happened Friday afternoon in a residence in the city's Range Lake neighbourhood.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, between 30 and 40 years of age, about six feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He has short, light-coloured hair, police said.

"The victim did give us a description advising that he had what sounded to her as being an East Coast accent," Const. Kathy Law told CBC News on Tuesday.

Police said there was no sign that the man had forced his way into the home.

The victim reported the crime on Saturday. She was treated and released from hospital.

The RCMP are now asking the public to help find the suspect, based on the victim's description. Police are also urging people to make sure their doors are locked and their windows are closed.
