A Yellowknife RCMP officer has been charged with assault.
Const. Cory Wallace is facing assault charges following an RCMP investigation that started in March.
According to a news release, the RCMP were escorting a prisoner from the Yellowknife courthouse, when that prisoner was injured.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Barry Ledoux says the force won't be releasing details of the prisoners injuries, or say how they found out about the assault.
"At this time and due to the nature of the investigation we will not be releasing that information. That, again, is a part of the investigation that will come out later in the process," Ledoux said.
"G" Division's Major Crime unit conducted the investigation and handed its report over to crown counsel.
The news release says the evidence supported charging one officer.
Wallace has been working with Yellowknife RCMP for three years. He has been on administrative duties in Yellowknife since the investigation began and will remain on administrative duties until the completion of the matter, the RCMP said in the news release.
He is due to appear in court on Sept. 17th, 2013.
