The Yellowknife Airport was evacuated for about one hour after a suspicious package was found Tuesday afternoon.
Around 12 p.m., the airport was evacuated after the suitcase went through security screenings and an item inside raised alarm.
As a precaution, about 200 people were evacuated from the airport.
The evacuation order lasted a little over an hour after the item in the suitcase was no longer considered a threat.
"There were about four of five [airports] all together that were delayed in one way or another, but the amount of inconvenience or time lost by most travellers was minimal," said Earl Blacklock, spokesperson for the Northwest Territories Department of Transportation."
Blacklock says the Yellowknife airport has been evacuated about four times in the last six years.
He couldn't say what the item in the suitcase was.
