A Tsiigehtchic woman is resuming her search for the body of her brother who went missing on the Mackenzie River last September.

"If it takes all summer I won't be giving up," Julie-Ann Andre said.

Her brother, Danny Andre, went missing on September 23, 2015, along with another man.

A capsized canoe was later found about five kilometres from Tsiigehtchic. Fishing gear and other supplies found with the canoe led police to believe the two men had fallen into the river and drowned.

"I just don't believe that he died in the water," said Andre.

"He was too strong of a swimmer. And he needs his body to be found."

Out of character

Andre said there are signs that something else happened to her brother. His cabin was left unsecured and his dogs were left unattended — which she says was out of character for him.

"Danny had always made sure everything was done before he left the cabin for any length of time," Andre said.

She plans to head out today to search for her brother and is appealing to volunteers for help. She's also seeking donations for fuel.

Andre has invited the RCMP to come out but she said the police force declined.
