The oldest Mexican food restaurant in Yukon will serve its last meal Sunday.

Sam and Andy's in Whitehorse served its first tacos in 1983. Now four owners, and 29 years later, it's the end of the road for current operator Sharon Caron.

Caron says she wanted to give back to the community on the last weekend in business.

"We recognize that Sam and Andy's has always been a really big part of the community, so we want to give it a big giant Sam & Andy's sendoff."

Since Friday, the restaurant has featured a charity fundraising barbecue and silent auction. All the proceeds are going to local charities: the Yukoners Cancer Care Fund, the Easter Seals house, the Whitehorse Food Bank and wheelchair athlete and former Sam & Andy's employee, Jessica Frotten.
