A Whitehorse youth faces several charges after an incident in the Copper Ridge subdivision Friday night.

The RCMP went to a home after receiving complaints about a 17-year-old male wielding an axe and causing damage to his residence. The police said they were called earlier in the evening to the same house on an unrelated non-criminal matter.

RCMP officers surrounded the home to determine if the youth was still in the home. They later learned he had fled before they arrived.

During a search of the residence, the suspect approached officers outside the home and surrendered without incident.

The youth has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, mischief to property and uttering threats. He appeared in court Saturday.
