Police say a package found early Friday in the lobby of the Whitehorse CIBC is "not a threat to public safety."

Barricades were removed from downtown streets and traffic was flowing again, just after 2 p.m.

RCMP had blocked off several city blocks around the CIBC building as they investigated a "package of unknown origin" found earlier Friday in the bank's lobby.

Police said their Explosives Disposal Unit was consulted, but has determined that the package is benign.

They have not said what it was, but say their investigation into the incident continues.
