Water service shut down in Fort Liard due to break-in
RCMP have arrested a man and charges are pending
Water service has been shut off in Fort Liard, N.W.T. until at least Friday following a break-in at the water treatment plant.
Alan Harris with the hamlet says bacteriological testing is being done to make sure nothing has been poured into the reservoirs.
"I'm hoping that the bacteriological tests will come back clean on our water holding reservoirs," he says. "If not, we will be having to dump all the held water out and then getting our water reservoirs disinfected."
Harris says the reservoirs hold 120,000 litres of water.
The water treatment plant is also a car wash station. The person who broke in smashed the cash box and stole money.
RCMP have a man in custody and charges are pending.
Results from the biological testing will be available Friday morning. In the meantime, residents are relying on bottled water from the stores.
