An American hunter may have shot the world's biggest moose in the Yukon.

The big bull was taken this week by an outfitter's client on his first moose hunt in the territory.

Jim Fink operates Blackstone Outfitters from a camp west of Dawson City. His unofficial measurements show the moose has a 73 3/4-inch rack.

"It's a fantastic moose it's the best I've seen in 20 years of guiding," he says. "One word for it is awesome, wide pans and incredibly heavy. It's quite unbelievable that a moose can grow that much antler in one year."

The moose antlers must dry for 60 days before official measurements can be registered in the "Boone and Crockett" record book.

A Whitehorse official with the club says estimates put this moose among the top four in the world.
