A 27-year-old Tulita, N.W.T., man is in serious but stable condition in an Edmonton hospital following a snowmobile accident.

RCMP said the man was travelling at a high speed just after midnight on Dec. 24 when his machine struck an embankment and collided with a power pole.

He sustained serious injuries and was medevaced to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton.

The man was not wearing a helmet at the time.

Police said speed and alcohol were factors in the incident and are reminding the public about the dangers of drinking and driving.
