Charges are pending against two Tulita, N.W.T., men after RCMP seized more than 80 bottles of vodka being transported into the community by snowmobile Friday morning.
Police had received a tip that two people were travelling to Tulita with a large amount of liquor.
They stopped a snowmobile at about 1:15 a.m. north of Tulita on the Mackenzie River and found 83 375 ml bottles of vodka during a search of the vehicle.
Tulita liquor restrictions allow for a possession limit of 1,140 ml of spirits — about three 375-ml bottles.
Liquor charges are pending against a 45-year-old man and a 26-year-old man.
This is the second large seizure this month in Tulita. On April 3, RCMP seized more than eight dozen bottles of vodka being transported to the community by snowmobile. Two 19-year-old men were facing charges in that case.
