Tulita, N.W.T. is the first community in the Sahtu and one of the first in the Northwest Territories to have 100 per cent LED streetlights.
Tejas Kashyap is the community economic development officer. He says the project started last fall, and was completed March 5.
Kashyap expects the lamps to last 10 to 15 years, and save an estimated 50 MWh of energy per year, equivalent to the energy consumed by five houses.
Kashyap says the lights are also much brighter.
The Arctic Energy Alliance and the Northwest Territories Power Corporation took part in the project.
