A former chair of the Tuktoyaktuk Community Corporation has been sentenced to six months in jail for theft.
Robert Bruce Gruben charged about $60,000 to one of the corporation's credit cards. Most of the purchases were for online gambling in 2009 and 2010.
The Crown prosecutor said Gruben apologized early on and resigned from his position.
Gruben was also sentenced to two years probation and restitution — meaning he has been ordered by the court to pay back the money.
So far, he has paid back about $1,000.
