A vehicle in downtown Yellowknife was gutted by a fire Wednesday morning.

A 1985 Ford four-door pickup truck was parked in a back alley on 46th Street near a garage, a boat and a camper.

According to a city news release, the truck's owner was alerted to the fire at about 7 a.m. when a passerby noticed smoke coming from the vehicle.

The owner doused the garage, boat and camper with water from a garden hose to keep them from catching fire.

By then, the fire department arrived and were able to put out the fire.

The cab of the vehicle was completely destroyed and the engine compartment has extensive damage. There was also minor damage to the garage.

Police are calling the cause of the fire suspicious and are investigating.
