The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the official list of nominations this morning and two northerners who had been shortlisted were not on it.

Whitehorse composer, Daniel Janke, wrote the score and performed in the 11-minute animated film, “Subconscious Password,” which made the short-list for best animated short film.

“Throat Song,” a short film shot in Iqaluit, was shortlisted for a best live-action short.

That film stars Rankin Inlet artist Ippiksaut Friesen as a young woman struggling to leave an abusive relationship.

It was produced by Stacy Aglok Macdonald, originally of Kugluktuk but now living in Iqaluit where she runs her own production company.
