Tents, generator stolen from Skookum Jim Friendship Centre
Items stolen from Whitehorse centre's storage locker over the winter
Seven tents and a generator were stolen sometime over the winter from a storage locker belonging to the Skookum Jim Friendship Centre, in Whitehorse. The equipment was used by the Centre's Traditional Parenting Program for its on-the-land programs.
Joe Migwans, program co-ordinator, says the four wall tents and their frames, three dome tents and the generator were put into the storage locker last fall.
He says the loss of the equipment will have an impact on the program.
"In order to have people out, they do need tents," he said. "I'd hate to cancel that harvest camp because people look forward to that. A lot of new people come out. So I'm not sure at this point what I'm going to do."
Migwans estimates the stolen equipment is worth about $10,000, in total. He says the matter has now been turned over to the police.
