The death of a teenager in Inuvik, N.W.T. has been ruled an accident. RCMP will not be laying charges in the death of Paulöusie Ittungna.
Ittungna, 18, was found by a cab driver in the middle of Gwich'in Road on Oct. 28.
On Monday, police confirmed that a driver contacted them on Oct. 28 and said he had run someone over. He had already called an ambulance and police say he was distraught with grief.
Staff Sgt. Jerry McKenna said they were waiting for autopsy results before releasing that information.
It was initially suspected that Ittungna may have been beaten. McKenna said the results of the autopsy support the driver's story.
Cathy Menard, the chief coroner of the Northwest Territories, said Ittungna was lying down when a vehicle rolled over him.
Menard said there is no foul play suspected and the only injury to his body was the impact of the tire.
There is no indication as to why Ittungna was laying in the road. It could take several weeks for lab tests to determine if there was any alcohol in his system.
Ittungna's funeral is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
