Major crime and forensic investigators continue to look for clues to the death of an 18-year-old male in Inuvik.

Though they have released his age, police say they are still trying to identify the man, who was found by a cab driver in the middle of Gwich'in Road early Sunday morning.

Police say they are almost certain they know who it is, but family members were unable to identify the body with certainty.

He had severe injuries to the head.

The RCMP will be relying on dental records for identification.

Police are not ruling anything out, but suspect the teenager was struck or run over by a car or snowmobile.

The investigation has been made more difficult by heavy snowfall, which would have covered any tracks that may have been left on road.

Though there's been no official confirmation of the teenager's identity, friends are already mourning the death of 18-year-old Paulousie Ittungna, a popular athlete, soccer goalie and competitor in arctic sports who graduated last year.

Ittungna has not been seen since the weekend.
