The Northwest Territories Native Women’s Association acclaimed a new president Thursday.
Paulina Roche of Deline was the only one nominated for the position.
Paulina Roche of Deline was acclaimed as president of the Northwest Territories Native Women’s Association Thursday. (CBC)Roche was a director for the Native Women's Council and has been part of the Native Women's Association for the past few months.
"I see a lot of need for the Native Women's Association to explore out there ... and I want to help,” she said. “I want to contribute my expertise to people who are in need — especially women."
Roche replaces Marilyn Napier as president.
Nine other board members were also acclaimed to the Native Women's Association.
The Native Women's Association supports and advocates for aboriginal women across Canada.
Due to a poor turnout at its annual general meeting last August, the association put off electing a new president and board until this month.
