Long-term physician to start 3-year contract in April

For the first time in years, a long-term doctor will arrive in Hay River, N.W.T., in April.
Next month, Dr. Coralie Boudreau starts a three-year contract.
“It's going to be more lucrative and I think it will be more appealing for other physicians who may be interested in staying long-term to sign a longer contract with us,” said Hay River North MLA Robert Bouchard.
People in Hay River complain about having to explain their health issues over and over again to the temporary doctors who have been serving the community.
Bouchard said having a permanent doctor means the physician will be able to get to know the patients and offer more consistent care.
The Hay River Health and Social Services Authority says it is working towards a staffing model where the town would have four permanent family doctors and three nurse practitioners.
