An 18-year-old Whitehorse woman is dead as a result of a two-vehicle accident near the Wolf Creek subdivision Monday night.

RCMP Const. Christine Grant said the young woman was a passenger in the front seat of a Dodge Neon travelling south on the Alaska Highway when it collided with a northbound truck just before 7 p.m.

The driver of the Neon is listed in stable condition in the hospital. The 20-year-old male driver of the truck was treated and released.

Grant said the driver of the truck was standing outside his vehicle when rescue crews arrived.

“The driver of the car was unable to get out on his own and assistance had to be rendered from the fire department,” she said. “Unfortunately the female passenger was deceased on the scene.”

The Yukon Coroner's office has identified the deceased as 18 year old Jessica Behan of Whitehorse.

Grant said alcohol was not a factor in the crash and the investigation is continuing.

The highway was closed for a few hours and traffic was diverted through the subdivision while police investigated.
