Iqaluit's undertaker will have to find a new place to park his hearse, as he is no longer allowed to keep the vehicle in the city garage.
"The car has been there now for several years and it's incumbent upon the city to help the community deal with deceased people,” says Brian Pearson.
Pearson is contracted by the Government of Nunavut to work as an undertaker. He says he doesn't do the job for the money and he can't afford his own garage.
John Hussey is the chief administrative officer for the city; he says they removed the hearse because the city needs extra room.
"We need every possible space we can get just for storage. The city is getting to the stage again now where most of our space is being utilized and we need more space for our own operations."
Last year, the hearse was removed temporarily from the garage, because it was leaking fluid.
This time, Hussey says, the city's decision to remove the vehicle is final.
