Nunavut man facing sex charges released on bail

A Pond Inlet, Nunavut, man charged with numerous sex-related offences has been released on $15,000 bail.
Billy Merkosak appeared in the Nunavut Court of Justice Friday afternoon in Iqaluit.
He is charged with sexually assaulting several young people in the 1970s and 1980s. Merkosak also faces two more recent charges dating to the fall of 2011 and last November.
Under his bail conditions, he can't have contact with anyone under 16 years of age without the presence of an adult, except for his children and those living in the Iqaluit household where he will stay.
He also has to stay a distance from schools and playgrounds.
Merkosak's next court appearance is March 4.
