The body of an elderly Japanese tourist was discovered at the Takhini Hot Springs near Whitehorse early Thursday morning.
RCMP say Kiyoko Nagasaki, 72, was part of a tour group visiting the Yukon to view the Northern Lights. The group had attended the hot springs facility, 30 kilometres north of Whitehorse, late Wednesday night as part of their visit.
Police say the woman had apparently wandered away from the group towards the hot springs. During a head count prior to departing the area, she was noted to be absent.
A check was made of the facility and the woman was found in the pool at around 3 a.m. She was pulled out of the water and resuscitation was attempted.
RCMP and paramedics were called and the woman was taken to Whitehorse General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
RCMP and the Yukon Coroner's Office are investigating but foul play is not suspected.
