A Whitehorse man is in hospital in Yellowknife after the snowmobile he was driving collided with a parked truck and the Northern store in Fort Good Hope, N.W.T.
RCMP said the driver and a passenger were travelling by snowmobile near the Northern store on Tuesday at around 5 p.m., when the sled struck a parked truck and then proceeded to drive into the Northern store building.
Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a helmet at the time.
The driver, a 37-year-old man, was injured in the collision and was taken to the community’s health centre and then medevaced to Yellowknife. Police say he is in stable condition at Stanton Territorial Hospital.
The passenger was treated at the health centre in Fort Good Hope and released.
Police say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the incident, and they are continuing to investigate.
