One person has been charged with uttering death threats after an incident at Sam Pudlat Elementary School in Cape Dorset Thursday.

RCMP were called to the school at about 9:45 a.m. after a staff member received a threat.

The school was put under a lockdown.

"The threat to the staff and occupants was unsupported, however,” said Cpl. Yvonne Niego with the RCMP in Iqaluit.

“A personal matter was involved. The lockdown was lifted soon after the RCMP arrived."

RCMP say the situation was not related to the school or the staff member's employment but rather was of a personal nature.

RCMP did not release the name of the accused. That person will make their first court appearance in Cape Dorset on May 6.
