An Inuvik, N.W.T., town councillor was acquitted of criminal charges this week.

Kurt Wainman was charged with assault, uttering death threats, and forcing his way into a house.

The charges stemmed from an alleged confrontation with a woman last September. Wainman pleaded not guilty to the charges in November.

The Crown prosecutor said the woman involved in the alleged incident didn't appear in court earlier this week.

The prosecution asked for an adjournment. It was denied, and Wainman was acquitted.
