A search for a missing man near Taloyoak, Nunavut, has ended with the discovery of human remains.
RCMP say searchers found the remains about one and a half kilometres north of the Taloyoak airport on Friday afternoon around 4:30 p.m.
A search for Pootoogook Jayko, 52, had been underway for a week.
Jayko was last seen on Thursday Nov. 15. He left the hamlet by snowmobile for a cabin about six kilometres away, but never arrived.
There were blizzard-like weather conditions Thursday and Friday, with windchills of -30 C.
Search and rescue volunteers found Jayko's snowmobile on Sunday, between the hamlet and the cabin.
The RCMP have turned the investigation over to the Office of the Chief Coroner for positive identification.
RCMP thanked the many volunteer searchers who put in long hours in cold conditions, community members who provided food and supplies, and the hamlet office and Nunavut Emergency Management.
