A 15-year-old boy is facing charges after a large drug bust in Behchoko, N.W.T., on Halloween.
Members of Behchoko and Yellowknife RCMP and G Division’s police dog services searched a home in the community in the early morning of Oct. 31. They seized 279 grams of marijuana with a street value of about $6,000.
They also found $7,000 in cash, weapons including baseball bats, knives and BB guns, and seven bottles of vodka.
Cpl. Jeremie Landry said police believe the liquor was meant for resale in the dry community.
"There has been an ongoing investigation for the last number of weeks into this specific residence in Behchoko," he said. "As a result of information gatherered by the police, there was sufficient evidence to support a search warrant. We're looking at the broader aspects of the investigation that there could be charges pending on other individuals."
After his arrest, the 15-year-old was released back into the community.
The youth has been charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, and possessing the proceeds of crime over $5,000. He cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Landry said the teen could face more charges. He's scheduled to appear in court in Behchoko on Jan. 15.
