Alberta police investigators say officers were justified in October 2011 shooting

Police investigators have determined Dawson City RCMP were acting in self-defence when they shot a man on the Dempster Highway last October.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team conducted the investigation.
They say the suspect, Mark McDiarmid, threatened two officers with a large axe. The officers drew their pistols and shot McDiarmid three times.
Investigator Ernie Schreiber announced the finding Thursday in Whitehorse.
"No criminal charges will flow as a result of the conduct by RCMP in this incident,” he said. “Both police officers were acting in self-defence and were justified in discharging their police service weapons."
McDiarmid's wounds were non-life threatening, and he has recovered from the injuries.
McDiarmid faces a variety of charges from the incident including attempted murder. A trial is scheduled for January in Dawson City.
