The arena in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, was set to reopen Saturday after extensive repairs.
In August, vandals drove the ice-resurfacing machine across the bare floor, damaging the refrigeration pipes beyond repair.
New pipes were ordered and the hamlet hired students to help with the installation.

David Clark, Rankin Inlet’s recreation co-ordinator, said his goal was to have the arena open by the end of October.
“We got to that goal,” he said. “We are going to be opening on Saturday. It took a little bit of extra work, a few more hours, but at the end of the day the ice looks great.”
Clark said registration for hockey starts Saturday afternoon.
