2 men charged in Fort Chipewyan, Alta., death

Two men have been charged with second-degree murder following a death in Fort Chipewyan, Alta., on Saturday.
Michael Dion Gladue, 39, was found unconscious Saturday afternoon in the community located just south of the N.W.T. border. He was transported to the health centre and pronounced dead.
Shannon Dion Gibot, 27, of Fort Chipewyan, Jonathan Dean Marten, 30, of Fort McMurray have been charged with second-degree murder.
Steve Courtoreille, Chief of the Mikisew Cree First Nation, said the community is coming together to support one another.
“We've done that in the past, pulling together to help and support the families who lost the young man and also the families of the young people who are being charged,” he said.
“There are so many families affected because there are intermarriages. I'm sure both the deceased and the young men in question are connected in some way, distant relations in some way. It makes it that much harder.”
Both men are in custody. They are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
