A prisoner who escaped from the Baffin Correctional Centre in Iqaluit on Tuesday afternoon has turned himself in to authorities.

Lucassie Simeonie escaped just after 3 p.m. ET, during the inmate's recreational time.

RCMP were searching for him all afternoon and evening, but he turned himself in to the correctional centre at about 9:50 p.m.

Police say they will talk to Simeonie in the morning to determine where he went while he was out of custody.

Simeonie is from Cape Dorset, Nunavut. He is serving time for assault, uttering threats and multiple break-ins.
