Official nominations haven’t begun yet, but people vying for the top job in Hay River, N.W.T., already seem to be campaigning.

Brian Lefebvre, a local businessman, said he will run for mayor of the town in the upcoming election.

Lefebvre is criticizing the $60,000 price tag of an organizational and operational review the town recently undertook.

“I think they could've gone more in depth and that's where I have a problem with the price tag. It looks like the report is not a complete report based on what it could be,” he said.

But Andrew Cassidy, a current town councillor who said he will run for mayor, defends the report.

“The $60,000 price tag — I can see if council doesn't do anything with it, yeah, it was money that was wasted but the fact is, there was twenty recommendations that came forward. Council has already started to enact some of those recommendations. Administration has already started to enact some of those recommendations,” said Cassidy.

The review started in late 2011.

The general election in Hay River will take place Oct. 15.
