John Postma, the Yukoner badly injured in a helicopter crash last month, is recovering in Vancouver's GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre.

He moved there a couple of weeks ago from Vancouver General Hospital. He was medevaced to the hospital on July 10 and underwent 12 hours of spinal surgery.

Postma's brother Robert is helping him recover.

“He has good days and bad days,” said Robert Postma. “He will have three good days followed by a bad day.

“He's surrounded by other folks in the rehab centre that are in the same position as him, which is a really good support system. I can't say enough for the medical staff and nurses of both Vancouver General and GF Strong.”

Postma was injured when the helicopter crashed on Nares Mountain in southwestern Yukon.

The pilot, Paul Rosset from Yellowknife, did not survive.

There will be a silent auction for Postma later this month.
